The new ad system for the new year is now in place and will be used across social media and email to target people’s interests.
But there are some pitfalls to be aware of.RTE has been following the rules, reporting on them to the Government, and we have now been told they will be updated in the coming weeks.
And that is why we will be putting this article together in two parts.
This article will detail the new rules and the ad services which will be allowed in the new system, so it is not only about what you can and cannot advertise but what you should be aware and careful about.
The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has made the changes, in a letter published this morning.
The new rules are being rolled out across all social media platforms in New Zealand by February.
As a result, the new ad service that is currently only available on Facebook and Google will become available to advertisers, including Wellington advertisers.
This will allow businesses to target more people than ever before.
For instance, a well-known restaurant in Wellington is set to be one of the first to launch in the next few weeks.
A spokesman for Wellington advertiser Gannett says they will also be able to advertise through their website.
“They will have an online presence for businesses to reach their audiences, and they will have the ability to promote their products to customers,” he said.
“This will be done by using a branded advertising space.”
However, a spokesperson for Wellington’s advertiser Mascot says they are not allowed to advertise on social media.
“We are not able to use our own branded space.
It would not be appropriate to advertise to our Facebook fans or followers on social.”
They are currently allowed to run their own branded ads, which they are also running on their website and in the news, but they are restricted from using social media in any way.
“It is also not allowed for us to use Facebook and Instagram, but those platforms will remain open to all advertisers,” they said.
The ASA says that is due to the fact Facebook has a strict rules on ad placement.
“Facebook has been in place for years, it is the one place where advertisers can advertise, and it’s the only place where they can be allowed to put their ads,” the spokesperson said.
We have been told that the ad service will be able advertise through Facebook, and will also have the capacity to promote products to their customers.
The Government says it is trying to minimise the negative impact of the change.
“The Government will not allow any new advertising service providers to start offering advertising services that are similar to existing service providers,” a spokesperson said in a statement.
“However, businesses will be permitted to create their own advertising space, including their own ‘brand’ spaces.”
A range of measures are being taken to ensure the Government has an effective ad system and that businesses do not fall foul of advertising laws.
“However the spokesperson would not say how much time would have to pass before the new service would be available.”
If you want to advertise, there are advertising services available that will be available to you for a period of time.
“The ASA has also set up a website where anyone can check what advertising services are available and where they are available.
The spokesperson says businesses will still be able offer an ad service, but only on Facebook, YouTube, Google, Instagram and Twitter.”
Companies are also welcome to use a range of other social media channels to promote and advertise their products and services, including the use of the official Wellington Facebook page,” they wrote.”
